What Leaking Really Means: Reframing Urinary Incontinence
Let’s talk about something that too many men keep to themselves—leaking.
Maybe it started after prostate surgery. Maybe it shows up when you cough, laugh, lift something heavy, or during sex. Maybe you’re hitting the bathroom way more than you used to—or you’re bracing for embarrassment during a long meeting, car ride, or gym session.
Whatever the story, here’s what I want you to know:
Leaking doesn’t mean you’re broken. It means your body is asking for support.
It’s Not Just About the Bladder
We often think of incontinence as a bladder issue. And sure, the bladder plays a role. But the real foundation? Your pelvic floor muscles, coordination, and connection with your nervous system. These systems are supposed to work together—quietly, powerfully, and without you even thinking about them.
When they don’t, leaking happens. And when no one teaches you what to do about it? It keeps happening.
That’s why I started Artizo.
Because you deserve more than absorbent pads and vague advice.
Why Leaking Happens (Even in Healthy, Fit Men)
Here are some common causes of leaking that we see all the time in coaching:
- Post-prostatectomy healing delays or nerve changes
- Weak or uncoordinated pelvic floor muscles
- Habitual “clenching” or holding tension in your gut, glutes, or thighs
- Poor awareness of how your body responds to pressure (like when lifting or exerting)
- Ignored constipation, poor digestion, or postural habits
- Fatigue, chronic stress, or trauma stored in the body
What do these all have in common? They affect your
pressure system—how your body manages internal pressure from breathing, moving, lifting, or reacting.
When that system is out of sync, leaking is the signal.
Reframing the Conversation
We don’t use shame here.
We don’t say “just do Kegels” and move on.
We reframe leaking as a
trainable skill—because that’s what it is.
Urinary incontinence is not a life sentence. It’s a signpost that something deeper needs attention, and that’s where coaching changes the game.
At Artizo, we help you:
✅ Understand your pelvic floor like you’ve never been taught
✅ Learn when to contract and when to relax (both matter!)
✅ Fix pressure mismanagement from lifting, coughing, sex, or exercise
✅ Rewire the brain-body connection so your body knows how to respond again
✅ Create realistic goals and exercises tailored to your life—not a generic checklist
A Client Story (Yes, He Leaked Too)
One client, we’ll call him David, came in after prostate surgery. He was leaking daily—during workouts, walking his dog, and just… randomly. He was strong, worked out regularly, and thought, “Why is this still happening?”
We focused not on doing more, but on doing it differently—breathing, posture, timing his contractions, and building coordination, not just strength.
By month two, he had ditched the pads. By month three, he was lifting weights confidently. And by month four? He said something I’ll never forget:
“I finally feel like I’m in control again. That’s what I lost—not just bladder control, but control over my life.”
The Bigger Picture
Healing from urinary incontinence is not just about stopping leaks—it’s about getting your confidence, your freedom, and your energy back.
And here’s the truth: You don’t have to figure this out alone.
This blog is here to support you—with education, exercises, mindset tools, and encouragement that’s honest and actionable.
If you’ve been struggling with leaking, know this:
You’re not the only one. And you’re not stuck.
Let’s start your recovery on your terms.
