Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Why should I see a male physical therapist when there are plenty of female therapists around?

We understand this is a personal decision. Many men feel more at ease discussing sensitive issues like urinary leakage, sexual dysfunction, or pelvic pain with a provider who shares their lived experience. At Artizo LLC, you're seen, heard, and understood—without judgment.

As a male physical therapist who specializes in men’s pelvic health, I offer a unique level of relatability combined with advanced clinical training. I’ve helped men recover from prostate surgery, overcome erectile dysfunction, manage chronic pelvic pain, and regain control of their bladder and bowels—all in a private, respectful setting. You deserve expert care tailored to men, by someone who gets it.

2. Do I need a referral from my doctor to begin treatment?

No referral is needed. Virginia is a Direct Access state, which means you can begin physical therapy without waiting for a doctor’s prescription. If we discover anything that requires medical follow-up, I’ll let you know and help guide you to the right provider. Your safety is always my top priority.

3. Do you accept cash as a form of payment?

Yes. I operate as a cash-based provider, which means:

  • No surprise insurance denials
  • More personalized and flexible care
  • No rush through treatment just to fit billing codes

If you'd like to seek reimbursement, I’ll provide a detailed receipt with the proper codes that your insurance company may use for potential out-of-network coverage. I’m happy to guide you through that process.

4. How quickly can I be seen?

Because I run a mobile, style practice, I can often schedule you next 24 hours, depending on availability. If your symptoms are urgent or affecting your daily function, let me know—I’ll do my best to prioritize your care.

5. My schedule is packed. Can I still make this work?

Absolutely. I bring the clinic to you, saving you the time and stress of commuting. Whether you need early mornings, lunch breaks, evenings, or weekends, I offer flexible appointment times to meet you where you are—in both location and lifestyle.

6. Why should I see a physical therapist before seeing a doctor?

As a board-certified orthopedic clinical specialist with specialized training in male pelvic health, I am qualified to assess and treat many of the conditions men face—from pain and leakage to post-surgical recovery and sexual health. I’m also trained to identify red flags and refer out when medical follow-up is needed.

Seeing me first can save you time, reduce unnecessary imaging or medication, and get you started on recovery sooner.

7. Will I be treated by a certified pelvic health specialist?

Yes. You’ll be working directly with me,  Dervin Fedalizo.

I’ve undergone extensive training through Herman & Wallace, the gold standard in pelvic health education. Combined with my background in orthopedics, I bring a holistic, evidence-based, and real-world approach to your recovery.

8. I’m 65 and on Medicare. Can I still work with you?

Unfortunately, I do not accept Medicare, even for private-pay clients. This is due to legal restrictions under federal Medicare laws. If you're seeking care under Medicare, I’d be happy to refer you to qualified providers who can bill appropriately through your plan.

9. What can I expect during my first session?

Your first visit is a 75-minute evaluation—and it includes treatment. Here’s what to expect:

  • We start with a confidential interview to understand your symptoms, goals, and lifestyle.
  • I’ll assess your movement patterns, muscle coordination, posture, breathing, and pelvic health function.
  • All assessments and treatments are done with your full consent—nothing is ever forced or uncomfortable.
  • I bring everything needed to your home, office, or private space, so you don’t have to travel or sit in a waiting room.
  • Each follow-up session is 60 minutes, allowing for focused, one-on-one care tailored to your progress.

10. What exactly is pelvic floor physical therapy for men?

Pelvic floor physical therapy is a specialized area of care that focuses on the muscles, nerves, and structures of the pelvis, hips, lower back, abdomen, and genitals. For men, this often includes issues like:

  • Urinary urgency, frequency, or dribbling
  • Erectile dysfunction or delayed ejaculation
  • Prostate surgery recovery
  • Pain in the testicles, penis, perineum, or tailbone
  • Constipation or bowel issues
  • Muscle tightness or weakness in the pelvic region

Treatment may include manual therapy, targeted exercises, neuromuscular re-education, lifestyle coaching, breathing techniques, and more—all customized to your needs and comfort level.

11. How long will my recovery take?

Recovery time varies depending on your condition and how committed you are to the process. Some men notice improvements within a few sessions, while others benefit from longer-term support.

I tailor each plan to your goals, progress, and daily routine, with regular check-ins and adjustments along the way. My aim is to help you recover as quickly as possible without sacrificing quality or safety.

12. Is this really private? I don’t want anyone to know.

Yes—your privacy is fully protected. Every session is held one-on-one, behind closed doors, and in a space of your choosing. I also strictly follow all federal privacy laws, including the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), which ensures that your health information is confidential and secure.

You don’t have to share your story with anyone but me—and you don’t have to walk into a crowded clinic. This is discreet, professional care made just for you.
